Malta Gaming Authority suspects Betago licence for breaches

Betago Casino was found to have breached three main points of the MGA’s regulations following the conclusion of the investigation. The MGA has stated that the operator had significantly failed to pay the body for its operators in a timely manner and that it still owed money to the MGA.

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has suspended Betago Casno’s licence after it had come to the conclusion that the operator committed a number of breaches relating to reg. 9 of the regulations.

The MGA went on to note that Betago must also retain and give access to all registered players’ records as well as refund any cash that players may have in their own accounts. Betago Casino has the right to appeal the decision.

Betago Casino is also no longer listed on Germany’s white list of approved online gambling operators. Both the Betago.com and Betago.de domains are no longer functioning. The company acquired a federal sports betting licence in Germany back in February 2021. Since then, the licence has been removed due to three breaches.

This is the second regulatory action that the MGA has enacted in the past month. The regulator also suspected Genesis Global’s licence following the operator’s insolvency back in December 2022. The licence was suspended as per the MGA’s regulations around insolvency.

The watchdog said: “This sanction is being imposed upon the authorised person [Genesis Global] for having breached reg. 9 (1) (f) of the regulations since the authorised person is being wound up.
“The authorised person is thus no longer authorised to carry out any gaming operations, register new players or accept new customer deposits, and must continue collaborating with the authority.

When Genesis Global entered insolvency, the company sent a letter to all of its 140 staff members declaring that they would be made redundant due to the insolvency. The letter went on to state that the staff may not be paid at all, including any money owed to them in wages.
