The UK gambling regulator has also had to send over 250 cease and desist warnings to operators and 200+ to advertisers as they seek to clamp down on operations that are working outside of their regulatory framework and rules.
UKGC recently called upon the licensees to make sure they were not contributing to problems by working with unregulated companies: “I do not understand why anyone in the licensed industry would want to be in business with a company that is supporting illegal competition — it makes no sense to me at all and would suggest the illegal market is not the issue some suggest, if this was deemed acceptable.”
He issued a warning at ICE to those who may not be sticking to their responsibilities:
“If the Commission detects illegal activity in any operator — B2C or B2B — we may well immediately suspend their licence and, in any event, they face the very real prospect of having their GB licence revoked, which means anything they are supplying to anyone else in Great Britain will cease immediately.”
Many of the casino industry operations outside of the UK rely on licences from other countries and jurisdictions and this can lead to potential problems. There are examples of casinos working with companies and suppliers that do not meet the UKGC regulations and this is something that the regulator wants to clamp down on to protect customers.
“Overall, we expect to be saying far more about the area of gambling being fair and open, as well as continuing to press on the issue of transparency for consumers and understanding the level of restrictions in place in the GB market,” he concluded.
